Whether in muesli, porridge or just as a snack: you surely have already eaten local berries. In almost every healthy breakfast you can find these small fruits. After all, local fruits offer many advantages und you can use them in many different ways. But why exactly are local berries so popular and what benefits do they really have?

What makes berries so beloved?

In general, there are many different reasons why berries are so popular. Most of the small, colorful foods are not only superfoods, but also taste great and can be combined in many ways – even with our Verival products.

In addition, it is a feast for the eyes and the colored berries bring a summery atmosphere onto the plate. Also, berries have no fat and are very low in calories, which makes them perfect for a healthy diet and consuming them will not become visible on the ribs. When it comes to health, berries are your best friend.

What health benefits do berries have?

Local berries offer loads of power. For example, aggregate fruits often have an anti- inflammatory effect and many of the varieties contain a lot of iron or magnesium. Furthermore, the fruits are good for the memory and the heart. And due to their high vitamin levels, berries will let you feel a little better immediately after eating. In addition, as already mentioned, local berries are very low in calories, which makes them perfect as a snack or as a topping for your porridge or muesli

Healthy ingredients in berries

Of course, you have to keep in mind that these many different varieties of berries also have different ingredients. However, in general it can be said that they usually score high on vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, calcium, carotene, iron, magnesium and zinc. As you can see, berries should definitely be part of a balanced diet. This is also not difficult, as the small fruits alone are already very tasty, but can be combined even better with other delicious products.

Where do our local berries come from?

As the name already reveals, the fruits come from “home”. Since the fruits are grown in Germany, they are often cheaper than exotic fruits. For example, in summer you can also collect different kinds of berries by yourself.

Our delicious local berries

There are many different varieties of local fruits. The best known are these:

  • Strawberries
  • Blackberries
  • Raspberries
  • Gooseberries
  • Cranberries
  • Blueberries
  • Currants
  • Elderberries

Blueberries

Blueberries are, after strawberries, the most popular variety in Germany. The small fruits contain many different substances such as magnesium, iron, carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E.

This is the reason why they are so good for our immune system. Already 250 grams of blueberries cover the daily requirement of vitamin C of an adult. Blueberries also have a positive effect on various inflammations. In addition, they are great for making jams.

Blackberries

The dark and large blackberries are mainly found in supermarkets in late summer. Blackberries also have high contents of vitamin C, which strengthens our immune system. But the small fruits have even more advantages. The dark fruits are also said to calm or strengthen the vascular walls and connective tissue. So, blackberries also belong to superfoods and are very healthy for our body.

Raspberries

These small fruits can be found from June to October. They are especially known for their intensive coloring. Of all fruits, the sweet and sour berry has the most fibre, which activates our digestive system and can lower our cholesterol level. Raspberries also contain many different ingredients that have a positive impact on our skin and hair.

Strawberries

Without doubt, it is pretty sure that the strawberry is the most popular variety in Germany. But not only the taste of this fruit is convincing. Just 200 grams cover more than 150 percent of the daily requirement of vitamin C. The strawberry also contains many other substances that are known for cancer-preventive effects. In addition, consuming strawberries can inhibit the growth of tumors. In general, strawberries have a great positive impact on our body.

Currants

The currant is also a fruit known for its taste – sweet and sour. But this is not the only thing that distinguishes the currant. Currants also contain many vitamins that have a positive impact on our body.

Exotic berries and trends

Apart from all the local berries described above, there are also some fruits that are exotic but also have a great taste and effect. These include chokeberries, goji berries, açai berries and acerola berries. They also contain great ingredients and are becoming increasingly popular.
