Walnuts – the clever Source of Omega-3 in your Museli

Walnut trees are actually some of the oldest trees that exist. Humans have enjoyed their fruits – walnuts –for more than 9.000 years and in Ancient Greece they were even known as a true health food with healing properties. Botanically speaking, walnuts are real nuts but they were actually considered stone fruits for a rather long time. Even though we only ever really use the term “walnuts” there are a lot of different varieties with almost royal titles like “Red Danube Nut”, “Esterhazy II”, “Franquette” or “Wonder of Monrepos”.

Walnuts…

are ideal for: the school bag, stressful times at work, slightly forgetful friends or colleagues, fans of regular trail mixes

are packed with: polyunsaturated fatty acids and the highest amount of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids found in nuts. Because walnuts are so high in fat, however, it is best to eat smaller portions mixed with other nuts on a regular basis rather than one large walnut mono-meal. Walnuts are also full of potassium, zinc and vitamins and have a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Plus, walnuts are said to be a real concentration booster.
